How to join

How do I know if I can join a Freemasons Lodge?

This is an easy question to answer. It used to be any man over the age of 21 and of good repute might join a freemason’s lodge. And this is regardless of ethnic group, political views, economic standing or religion, although he is expected to have a faith, you are not required to be practicing within you faith, just that you believe in a supreme being, and the age limit is now 18 years of age.

The United Grand Lodge of England also run a student enrolment program and within this you are required to be over 18, and as such can join one of the growing number University Lodges. More details can be found here; https://www.ugle.org.uk/become-freemason/universities-scheme

How do I join?

Clearly if you know a Freemason, this should be your first port of call, as they can advise you on the process, or put you touch with someone that can, normally the secretary or membership officer in there lodge.

As not everyone knows a Freemason, then we would advise you to look at the following steps.

  • Find a local lodge, this can be done using a simple search on the web, or you may like to use the Find My lodge app in our links section.
  • You can contact the United Grand Lodge of England directly, via the web site, https://www.ugle.org.uk/become-freemason/how-to-join-freemasonry
  •  Or you can send us, here at Woodford Lodge, a note via the contacts page and we will be happy to assist you in becoming a Freemason

Already a Freemason?
